APPROACH

We seek to work as a trusted partner with Community and Government, respecting local culture and manage risks and opportunities associated with our activities to deliver enduring prosperity and lasting benefits through investment, community development, job creations and social infrastructure improvement. Operating in West Africa has unique challenges but also presents compelling opportunities for our communities and our business. Community investment has potential to deliver more material benefits to our communities than similar investments in developed countries

Working with Communities

Kismet is committed to fostering enduring relationships and partnerships with our community stakeholders and has established direct and regular communication with our communities using a variety of forums, tailored to meet their unique needs, our operations have most of the time one or more communities in close proximity.

Our approach to managing the risks and maximize the opportunities for our communities is centered on three pillars:

  1. Community Engagement
  2. Maximizing local benefits
  3. Implement Eco Friendly Mining

Community Engagement

  1. We believe continuous dialogue with our communities is critical to the early identification and mutual understanding of potential issues. It also helps to ensure all employees and contractors recognize and respect the value of cultural heritage and diversity.
  2. Our operations have generally one or more communities in close proximity, each is different in their backgrounds, cultures, religions, beliefs, education, expectations and needs, we have established direct and regular communication with our communities using a variety of forums.
  3. We seek to work in partnership with our communities at this regard each operation maintains a CSR (“Corporate Social Responsibility”) Agreement with each Community in order to ensure that each mining project that we promote, develop and manage shall be strictly environmentally friendly and shall benefit and contribute to the development of the local communities of the surrounding districts and all stakeholders.

Maximising Local Benefits

  1. We prioritize the purchases of goods and services from Local Vendors and Service Providers from the Districts where we operate which means providing directly and indirectly hundreds of jobs for local enterprises which find a reliable growth partner in each mining operation promoted developed and managed by the CEO and COO, in average 90% of the purchases of goods and services in our operations are from local vendors and service providers.
  2. We hire team members for each project from the district and the region where the project is located creating an average of 140 direct jobs and 50 contractors for each project, 95% of the 140 strong Team in the current operation is made of Ghanaian Nationals.
  3. We are committed to providing employment, skills-based training and promoting business opportunities to the communities in which we operate as a priority.
  4. All unskilled and skilled labour is first sought from local communities, including provisions for women and other potentially excluded groups. This is also required from our key contractors, ensuring employment opportunities are maximized.
  5. Procurement programs are in place to maximise local and regional content by creating partnerships and prioritising local businesses, supporting their sustainable growth and capacity building.
  6. We are proud that today all our major goods and services are provided by Ghanaian contractors, including our mining contactor, catering, in-country logistics, fuel and much more, a large portion of our consulting services are also locally sourced..

Implement Eco Friendly Mining Processing

  1. We have zero “0” chemical use in our processing and extraction process.
  2. We do recycle of the water through the construction and use of water dams system in our projects.
  3. Implementation of Land Reclamation program continuously while mining for each area mined and planting of trees and crops on the reclaimed lands
